Community Meeting – Pedestrian Sundays in 2012

11 Nov

Tuesday, November 29th
6:30 to 8pm
91 Bellevue Ave., St. Stephen’s Gymnasium

There is more foot traffic than ever in Kensington Market and we now have an opportunity, thanks to a street-closure infrastructure investment by the City’s Public Realm office, to enjoy & host pedestrian-only streets more often starting in 2012.

Local Merchants & Residents are asked to please attend this meeting to discuss:

  • How frequently we should open our market streets to pedestrians for non-festival days
  • How often we should host our traditional street-festival type events
  • A community sound charter
  • A new name for these events (since ‘Pedestrian Sundays’ is associated with festivals)

–> Can’t make it to the meeting but want to let us know what you think?

Please visit  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/kensingtonmarket & complete our online survey by November 28th.

Public Meeting: Public Realm Investments in Kensington Market

13 Oct

Meeting about Public Realm Investments in Kensington Market

Date: Wednesday October 19, 2011

Time: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Location: St. Stephen’s Gymnasium, 91 Bellevue Ave

The City of Toronto is exploring options to facilitate street closures in Kensington Market, as a substitute for renting barricades every time that the streets are closed.

A proposal has been developed for flower planters that could be installed on the streets in Kensington Market that include fold-out barricades for when the streets are closed to vehicular traffic, including during Pedestrian Sundays events.

City staff from Transportation Services will be in attendance to present the design concepts.

Please join us for this consultation to hear more about the plans and provide your feedback.

Kensington Farmers Market Community Meeting

14 Jun

When:   Tuesday June 14th, from 7pm
Where: St. Stephen’s Community Centre Gym – via
91 Bellevue Ave.

All are welcome to join this community discussion about the pros and cons of bringing a Farmers Market to Bellevue Square Park this fall.

With Big Box shopping posing a threat to area merchants, we need to find creative ways to keep Kensington Market thriving as one of Toronto’s best ‘Fresh Food’ shopping destinations.

How can a Farmers Market better connect local food producers to Kensington’s merchants & shoppers?  What are some of the food product gaps that could be filled through these partnerships?  How and when could a Farmers Market fit into Kensington Market?
